Taybl is 1.49% for UK cards with no extra Stripe fees on top. Square lists 1.75% in person. Toast published 2.49% + 15p in May 2026 but now quotes the rate with your package, with processing through Adyen. Lightspeed does not publish UK card rates and quotes them per venue.

£69 (Plus plan)
£80 or £150
£79, £149 or £219
Taybl POS is £79 a month as a standalone product. Square is shown on its Plus plan, per location, because the free plan leaves out features such as split by seat or item, course management, QR pay and end-of-day reports. Toast UK lists Starter at £80 and Essentials at £150. Lightspeed lists Basic, Core and Pro, with extra registers at £39 each.

Taybl kitchen screens are included, so you buy only the screen. Square KDS software is an extra £15 per device per month. Toast includes it on Essentials and sells it as an add-on on Starter. Lightspeed includes it on Core and Pro.
Taking orders and service
Handheld table-side ordering
Take orders at the table and send them straight to the bar and kitchen.
Live floor plan and table status
See every table at a glance: guests waiting to order, food waiting on the pass, tables needed for the next booking.
Order by seat
Orders sit against the guest's own seat, so the right dish reaches the right person and bills split cleanly. Square offers seat management on its Plus plan. Toast also numbers seats on an order.
Fire by course, hold mains
Drinks to the bar, starters to the kitchen, mains held until the table is ready, then fired when you choose.
Split by item, seat or evenly
Taybl splits by item, by seat, evenly or the whole table, and shared dishes share the cost fairly, with the service charge adding up to the penny. Square offers split by seat or item on Plus. Toast lists split bills generally.
Guests split shared items between themselves
A shared bottle or sharing platter can be split between the guests who had it, in shares, instead of being given to one person or divided by hand. Each guest pays their part, and the service charge still adds up to the penny.
Guests pay on the device passed across the table
Hand the handheld over so each guest pays their own share at their own pace, then return it to the server with a PIN.
QR order and pay from the table
Included
£20 p/m Extra Fee
Core plan, £149 p/m
Guests scan, order and pay from their seat with no app to download. In Taybl it is part of the £79. Square charges an extra £20 a month for it. Toast does not offer a full order and pay function. Lightspeed lists QR ordering and pay from Core at £149 a month, and as an add-on on Basic (£79).
Allergen safety
Allergen tracking by seat
Allergens are recorded against the individual guest's seat rather than the whole table, so a dish is checked against the person who will eat it. Square and Toast also track allergens by seat, using seat numbers.
Allergies set by seat on a visual floor plan
Taybl shows your real floor plan with the table's seats drawn on it. Tap the guest's own seat and tick their allergens, so the allergy belongs to a person you can see, not a seat number to remember. Square and Toast rely on seat numbers alone, with nothing to show which number is which seat at the table, so staff have to work it out themselves.
Warned before a clashing dish is ordered, and flagged to the kitchen
Pick a dish containing a flagged allergen for that seat and the handheld says so, including related allergens such as peanuts and tree nuts. The allergy then arrives on the kitchen ticket with the order.
Payments, staff and reporting
Manager-approved voids, comps and refunds with audit trail
Every void, comp and refund needs manager approval and is recorded against the person who made it.
NFC wristband staff login
Staff tap a wristband to sign in, with no shared PIN codes, so every action is tied to the right person.
Clock in on the till, hours into the rota
Taybl hours go straight into Rotas and timesheets, ready for payroll. Square (Shifts) and Toast cover time tracking and scheduling, but payroll is not included.
End-of-day reports and cash drawer counts
Takings by hour, the drawer counted against what is expected, and a one-tap export for your accounts.
Keeps working offline
With Taybl Hub
Limited
Taybl Hub adds a cellular backup so devices keep talking and cards keep working, with everything uploaded when the connection returns. Square supports offline payments on all plans, but declines them if the device is not back online within 24 hours, and contactless, gift cards and Clearpay do not work offline.
The unified-system advantage 2
Seat a booking and the covers, name and notes come across
Requires OpenTable for £179 p/m
Add-on
Seat a booked party and the cover count, guest name, notes and allergies carry over with no re-keying. Square does this through its OpenTable integration, which requires a separate OpenTable subscription at £179 a month. Lightspeed Reservations is a separate add-on.
Pre-orders and deposits already attached to the table
Dishes and deposits taken in the booking flow arrive on the order, so the guest is not asked to pay twice.
Sell and scan event tickets on the same device
Event ticket scanning runs in the same staff app your team already use, not another app to install and train people on.
One guest record across bookings, tickets and the till
A guest is one record, with their booking history, allergies, ticket purchases and usual orders in the same place.
1 Competitor prices and features are from each vendor’s public UK pages and independent reviews, checked October 2026. Toast no longer publishes its card rate, so 2.49% + 15p is its last published figure. Lightspeed quotes UK card rates per venue. Square is shown on its Plus plan (£69 per location per month), because several features are not on its free plan. Costs shown as “Extra Fee” are charged on top of the plan.
2 Competitors can connect to booking, rota and ticketing tools through integrations or separate products. In Taybl these links are native, with nothing to configure.
