Taybl vs Leafe: a food safety comparison for restaurants

Short answer: Both digitise SFBB-style food safety checks. The difference: Leafe pairs food safety with inventory management and a human HACCP documentation service; Taybl pairs food safety with a recipe-card-driven, always-current allergen matrix and bundles it with Bookings, Rotas and Marketing in one platform.

Why it matters

Picking a compliance app usually locks you into its ecosystem – worth knowing what each one is actually built around before you commit.

Where they differ

Taybl: automatic allergen matrix

Generated straight from your Recipe Cards' 14-allergen data, not typed in twice, exporting as a dated PDF. Leafe's allergen tracking is a Standard-tier add-on, not tied to recipe data.

Taybl: recipe cards & menu builder

Recipe Card builder, menu builder and a shared prep list are included - Leafe's menu management sits at Standard tier, and it doesn't offer a comparable prep list, nor does it let you add it to your website.

Taybl: one platform, not three

Bookings, Rotas and Marketing live alongside Food Safety in the same platform - Leafe's rota/shift tools only unlock at its top £149/month Pro tier, and it has no bookings or marketing module.

Leafe: ingredient-level inventory

Smart ingredient inventory (Standard tier, £74/mo) - tracking stock levels, not just usage. Taybl has its own wastage log, but not this level of ingredient stock management — a genuine gap if inventory is your main pain point.

Leafe: human HACCP support

A bespoke HACCP Plan and Food Safety Policy written by Leafe's compliance team, plus a 24/7 food safety hotline - Pro tier only, £149/month. Taybl's checklists ship pre-built to the SFBB pack but there's no human compliance service behind them.

Leafe: a cheaper way in

A solo-account Basic plan starts at £31/month - team size and features scale up through Standard and Pro. Taybl starts higher at £49/month but includes unlimited team members on every plan, with no per-seat tiering.

Honest framing

If inventory control is your main pain point, Leafe’s stronger there. If you want food safety, recipe/menu management and bookings talking to each other without re-entering data, that’s Taybl’s angle.

FAQs

Is Taybl SFBB compliant? Yes – the daily/weekly diary, open/close checks, safe methods and four-week review are all built to the SFBB structure, same as Leafe’s checklist system.

Does Taybl offer inventory management like Leafe? Currently not ingredient-level stock tracking, no. Taybl has a wastage log, but not Leafe’s Smart Inventory. This will be added in a future release though, with our new POS solution.

Can I get human HACCP support like Leafe’s? Not currently – Taybl’s checklists ship pre-built to the SFBB pack for you to adapt yourself, without a compliance team behind them.
